Thank you CTV Lethbridge for including me in tonight's news! "Lethbridge wants a voice that is fiscally responsible, and socially progressive." This isn't a two party election; we're ready for change. Vote Devon Hargreaves to be your MLA for 2019. @
By passing ‘Bill 1: The Carbon Tax Repeal Act’ the UCP will: 1. Take an important step towards creating 6,000 new jobs. 2. Help Albertans pay their bills. 3. Proactively release information about the carbon tax, withheld from Albertans by the NDP.
The Alberta Party is a centrist party that focuses on twenty-first century solutions that address the problems of all Albertans across our great province. We have six guiding principles that lead how our party views policy: Prosperity, Fiscal Respon

@deannapaul15 Keep it up.
It’s clear that Albertans need a new plan. A new plan to build pipelines, a new plan to get people back to work, a new plan to reignite our economy. The writ has dropped, and a Provincial Election has been called. Mark your calendars - we go to the

If you think Jason Kenney isn't anti-LGBTQ2S+, you clearly haven't done a shred of research. In the 1990s, Rachel Notley invited a gay friend in need to stay with her when he had been kicked out, while Jason Kenney bragged about stopping gays from v

It is no surprise to anyone that I am a progressive. What might be surprising is that I am not an NDP member or necessarily even an NDP supporter. I pride myself in being fiercely non-partisan and in being able to see the merits of all parties. I eveCalgary, Alberta
@dalecalkins @juliedownton No, not unless you’re selling rainbows and unicorns as part of your economic diversification strategy... In all seriousness, that’s a very tough one. Unfortunately, no Alberta provincial party can fully tackle the massive external influences on our oil and gas industry. It doesn’t matter whether it’s Jason or Rachel, they both can only make things less worse at the moment. There are just too many global variables that are beyond anyone in Alberta’s control. That’s why diversification is so crucial. Calgary is particularly vulnerable to the booms and busts. Those massive swings aren’t sustainable, but a new lower normal is also going to be very difficult. Oil will eventually run out, a new technology will replace it or reduce its desirability, and it may become too expensive to produce for a variety of considerations. We need to diversify now so that we don’t end up with without viable industry when things really go south. In the meantime, there still needs to be focus on a financially/environmentally sustainable oil and gas industry. It is also important to still keep in mind how successful Alberta remains. We have very high GDP and are a wealthy place. Our GDP/ rates are the highest in Canada and amongst the highest between Canada and the US. The Conference Board of Canada expects Alberta to lead Real GDP growth in 2020 in Canada, with more subtle gains in 2019. Our median household incomes are amongst the highest, if not the highest, in Canada and the US. Our tax rates are amongst the most competitive in Canada and our spending relative to GDP is the lowest. Now, that doesn’t mean everyone is doing equally well or poorly. Many are clearly worse off. Some businesses or industries or demographics are suffering more. Some are recovering stronger than others as we have edged out of the low point in the recession. Women, for example, are recovering stronger than men. More reasons why need to diversify our workforces and industries.
@dalecalkins @juliedownton Fortunately, in Calgary, net business openings continue to exceed business closings. We also have some of the most competitive tax rates in Canada. We have it good still, but we also have major systemic challenges. A $14.1b drop in assessed Downtown office values has made a $258m hit to our tax revenues that is being shifted to businesses outside the core. This is particularly challenging given Calgary’s abnormally high ~5 to 1 non-residential to residential tax ratio. We are putting everything on the table to soften that blow and to improve sustainability. A clear option is reducing that ratio gap, but that’s spicy with voters. Now, this isn’t necessarily the province’s responsibility to sort out, reform is largely on the City, but Calgary needs diversification and sustainability the most. We need the province to help make that happen. Ultimately, I just want to make it very clear that I’m very understanding of our economic situation and challenges, and that I still support Rachel over Jason. The former is focusing on diversification that will better insulate us from global commodity shocks, while the latter has a one track plan. Both are supportive of the oil and gas industry. Both are pushing for pipelines. But the former has those points plus more. My two cents.

@kpaul32018 And passionate we all need to be. We are who we are and decent people know this. It’s the small minded and truly ignorant that somehow think they are the chosen to heap their abuse on others. I have no patience for them anymore.
