A study from Wang et. al (2018) placed two groups on a calorie restricted diet for 8 weeks and they placed a sleep restricted group on 1 hour less sleep per night. The outcome was both groups lost the same amount of scale weight. However, the sleep restricted group lost less body fat and lost more muscle! They also found that catching up on sleep over the weekend did not attenuate this effect. .
When looking to maximise your dieting efforts. We have to place focus on our sleep.

(og lidt om dagens fuldmåne og den generelle verdensenergi)

Dagens energi er stærk og fuld af budskaber i dag. 
Energien på verdensplan fortæller om et begyndende vendepunkt i verdensenergien.
I dag har vi en superfuldmåne i vægtens tegn (den toppede i nat) og vi står i øjeblikket efter forårsjævndøgn hvor dag og nat var lige lange. Herudover har solen bevæget sig ind i vædderens powerfulde ildtegn efter en periode med fiskenes drømmende vandenergi.

Ja, det er lige et par ting, så hvis du føler dig lidt overvældet eller måske lidt fragmenteret i din energi, som om du bliver trukket i flere retninger, så giver det god mening smukke sjæl. Det kan føles lidt forvirrende og måske lidt som en følelse af gerne at ville tage et skridt fremad, men verdensenergien trækker dig to skridt tilbage eller til siden.

Energimæssigt står vi et helt andet sted nu end vi gjorde i går.

Vi går en tid i møde med lidt mere handlekraft og styrke.

Efter en periode der energimæssigt har trukket i dig for at reflektere og genoverveje ting begynder energien at åbne op for at du kan gøre noget ved de ting du har summet på. (Merkur er dog retrograd resten af marts, og energien i den kommende april måned er overvejende feminin numerologisk set, så forvent ikke for meget af energiskiftet.) Der ligger stadigvæk meget fokus på fra universet om, at du har godt af at overveje tingene i lidt bredere perspektiver, måske lære nye ting inden du foretager de store ændringer du ønsker.

Der ligger et dagsformål omkring balance i dag pga. fuldmånens energi, vægten der vejer ting af. Det er også et generelt budskab om at balancere ønsket for at bevæge sig fremad med behovet for at have hjertet og sjælen med i beslutningerne og handlingerne.

Fuldmånens energi varer ca. en uge, hvilket passer med at retrograd slutter, så det virker som om at den kommende uges tid meget vel kan handle om at få styr på nogle løse ender inden nye ting kan komme til næste måned.
Fuldmåne er altid en tid af afslutning, som en lille mini cyklus, hvor vi giver slip på det der ikke nærer os og afslutter samt afrunder forskellige projekter. [fortsættes nedenfor]

PRE RACE NUTRITION 101
.
This post is for the runners, endurance athletes, for people who for whatever reason find doing the same activity continuously fun.
.
Nutrition is a big part of the process when and something that we have factor into our short term and long term preparations for the event.
.
First of all, we should know that carb loading is a thing and there is a variety of research out there from single day strategies of (10g per kg of bodyweight) to drip feeding carbs in the days before the race. What we do know is that we do not need to have a period of depletion to obtain a super compensation effect and that supplementing creatine can augment the glycogen super compensation.
.
The preference for myself would be to increase carbs in the days before the race. Having 10g/ kg of bodyweight of carbs the day before the race is preferred by some athletes. However, there will be implications on bodyweight. Full stores of glycogen + water retention can lead to an increase in scale weight of up to 2.5kg, which as a runner isn’t always ideal. GI stress can also be experienced with this intake of carb, particularly if it is not practiced in training.
.
As well as this, it is important that on race day  and perhaps the day before food intake is generally low fat and low fibre as these foods can slow gastric emptying.
.
There are certain supplements that we can consider prior to our event. Caffeine has been shown time and time again to improve athletic performance and dosages of 3-6mg/ kg of bodyweight is recommended with no need to desensitise prior to the race. As well as this, Beetroot juice is certainly a consideration for intermediate runners as it has been shown to reduce pulmonary oxygen uptake during sub maximal exercise and improves exercise tolerance during intense work rates. The effects of beetroot juice is lessened in elite runners, however.

The main message, however is any nutritional strategies that are intended to be implemented prior to a race should be made apart of your training routine. Next week, we will discuss intra-race nutritional considerations and will touch more upon this also.

UNFOLLOW  Just a little reminder that if you’re following people who are promoting these products, then you are supporting them!

Although the majority of us can see through those who promote skinny teas, coffee, weight loss shots and the new one, skinny jabs, there is still a majority of people who can’t or don’t. Some look up to these ‘influencers’ and aspire to be like them, which means buying and taking the products they promote and ‘supposedly’ take themselves. They are being paid to promote these products and are ill-informed about why they ‘may’ work.

By following these people we are silently supporting what they are doing, which can be having a much bigger impact on someone’s mental and physical health than you may realise.

I believe that social media should be used as a platform to educate people and influence those in a positive and informed way. And when it comes to nutrition, you should only be taking advice from those who are qualified and educated. Not those who are being paid, sponsored or are using their ‘personal experiences’ to create plans or give advice. Try and be savvy when it comes to who you do and don’t believe, AND don’t be afraid to ask questions! #mollybhealthy

People have this whole fitness thing wrong.

If I was going to tell you 5 things I would tell you
.
1. I can play 4 musical instruments.
2. I slept on the street a fair bit whilst on a two month tour of Europe. 9 weeks- 22 cities- Best trip of my life (Don’t tell my Dad though, he would not be pleased if he knew)
3. I’ve lived in Montreal
4. I have a degree, on the road to a Masters.
5. Okay, One fitness related thing would make it on the list- Did 10,687 burpees 24 hours.
.
What I wouldn’t tell you .
1. The fact that I exercise 5 times per week
2. My macros
3.  Or the fact that the most weight I’ve ever lifted above my head is 160kg.
( Did I just slip that in there?)
.
When I am on my death bed. What am I going to tell my grandchildren? .
About the fact that I exercised 5 times per week? .
Or about the time I got into a spot of bother because of Finnish military bloke and ended up having to protect him from some French- African people in Marseille, which led to us getting lost in Marseille and sleeping in a bus stop? .
Ah. Great times.
.
Fitness doesn’t make you interesting.
It does some people but not you.
.
So many people are letting an the success of their diet, their performance levels in the gym or even the comparison to the fitness model determine their day.
.
Whereas it should be:
.
Your ability to be there for people.
Your smile.
Your banter.
Your empathy.
Your amazing stories ;-)
.
Exercise, dropping body fat is there as a supplement to make your life better. More energy.
.
To help you make more if an impact on the people around you. .
It does not define you. .
Be in it for the right reasons.

A Assessoria de Comunicação da Polícia Militar, ao prestar declarações sobre o assassinato de Kauan Noslinde Pimenta Peixoto, ontem, 17/03/2019, na comunidade da Chatuba, em Mesquita, primeiro falou sobre a morte do policial militar. 
A morte de um menino não pode ser comparada a morte de um profissional de segurança pública. O menino morto, quando visitava seu pai, não estava ciente do risco de vida que corria ao ser exposto a policiais que deveriam protegê-lo; não ganhava salário e gratificações pelo risco de vida que sabia correr; e,  não estava em situação de conflito com a lei ou sequer correu ao ver o veículo da polícia.
O menino foi assassinado porque aprendeu que a polícia deveria protegê-lo e parou ao ver o carro da polícia. 
Toda a comunidade assistiu os agentes da lei catando as capsulas dos seus disparos, com luvas de hospital. Ou seja: matam e apagam as provas. 
Porque??? Até quando? Qual objetivo de tanta matança?
Definitivamente esse Estado Brasileiro é assassino de jovens negros. É um estado genocida que justifica as mortes que não deveriam acontecer como baixas de guerra.
Sair para comprar um lanche é correr risco inimagináveis em uma de nossas periferias, em uma acachapante violação de direitos.
Nossa solidariedade a família da Kauan, onde mais uma mulher negra chora a morte de seu filho.
Estamos em luta contra esse genocídio.

• Is your nutrition supporting your goal? •

Whether you want to lose weight, improve your endurance or become stronger, how you fuel your body will play a big role in how much progress you make.

Yet how many times do you hear people saying the standard things like ‘you need always need to the following macro split’ or ‘protein must always be over 2g per kg bodyweight’? 
-
Most of the time these people only know nutrition from personal experience on what has worked for them. That’s great if you’re aiming for the same goal, have the same lifestyle or just want some general advice. But what if you don’t? Chances are what they give you might not always be what’s best for you.
-
For example did you know that someone looking to run a race (let’s take a marathon) is likely to need anywhere between 7-12g of carbs per kg bodyweight in the 3-4 days before race day to ensure Glycogen stores are as high as possible and to be fully prepared. For me that would be anywhere between 455-780g carbs per day!

Now compare that to someone in a calorie deficit getting ready for stage. Their priority is to keep protein intake high and depending on how far out from their competition they are, their carb intake could be as low as less than 2g per kg bodyweight.
-
For a person trying to build muscle they will also want to pay more attention to meal timing and fuelling their body to optimise training than someone who’s generally trying to lose weight.

These are just some examples of how a nutrition plan should be tailored to you as an individual based on your goals .

Make sure before you let anyone start telling you what you should and shouldn’t be eating that they actually have the knowledge to be able to do so 🤭.

Think protein is just for muscle gain?

This is my Grandad (& Nan), 87 years young as of yesterday and less than 3 weeks post total hip replacement. Since having surgery, he has increased his total protein intake and the frequency of protein servings, to aid the healing and recovery process and help prevent muscle protein breakdown as much as possible whilst his activity levels are low.
•
Protein requirements for the elderly (defined as 65+ in the research normally) are actually higher than younger people, as muscle cells become more resistant to protein synthesis and it takes a higher amount of protein for this to happen (age related sarcopenia). So if you have an elderly relative who is looking for optimum health to maintain their mobility/strength or is recovering from illness or surgery, the best thing you can do for them is encourage more protein!

Practical ways to do this are to swap toast/cereal at breakfast for Greek yoghurt and including a protein smoothie or yoghurt as a snack or dessert. This is especially important if they’re in hospital as the quality of their meals may not be great.

The protein yoghurts and shakes I bought my Grandad have gone down well and so has his recovery so far!

The BIA method is probably the most commonly used method in gyms and fitness centres due to it being cheap, quick and easy to use.
.

However it does have it's limitations. For example if you're using one that you hold (measuring upper body) and you have a leaner upper body, than lower body, then the reading will be completely different to one when standing on scales.
.

Readings can also be affected by the hydration status of the individual, skin temperature, room temperature and whether the individual is exercised.
.

Another commonly used method in gyms is skinfold testing, which is a brilliant way of measuring body composition IF you know what you're doing and IF you have a good set of calipers.
.
Stay away from plastic calipers and people who haven't been taught how to use them ( I won't use them as I don't have access to a good set and I haven't been shown correctly. I'm currently waiting to go on a course so I can add it to my services). My go to guy would be @danny_wilson_nutrition
.

Calipers are also relatively cheap in comparison to other methods, they are reliable and are great for monitoring progress.
.

However the interpretation of results is often misguided.
.

Using them as a snapshot measurement is meaningless, they should never be converted to BF% as they are highly inaccurate (use them as a marker in the sand, to help track progress) . There can also be huge variations between different practitioners, so seek out a good one and stick with them.
.

If the scales aren't moving but you know you're sticking to your plan (training/nutrition) then these are a godsend.
.

Other basic alternative methods that can be used are BMI, Bodyweight, girth and measurements.
.

If you combine, bodyweight measurements with the use of skinfolds, progress pics and performance measures then you will be able to build a good picture .
.

Whatever method you use, make sure you know it's advantages and limitations and watch out for any variables that may alter any measurements such as water weight when using body weight measurements, hydration status when using the BIA method or a  using skinfolds.

Muitas vezes os policiais, confessam que erraram, outras tentam imputar a vítima a culpa, dizendo que estavam armados ou  em situação suspeita, é outras, ainda, se aproveitam mesmo de qualquer justificativa para matar.

A morte se banalizou e a PM Carioca eata repleta de homens e mulheres cheios de agressividade e estereótipos de pessoas negras criminosas.

A execução sumária de pessoas supostamente criminosas ou de pessoas comprovadamente envolvidas se tornou práxis do combate ao crime no Brasil.

Claudia, era uma mulher comum que aos 38 anos tinha 4 filhos carnais e 4 adotivos.

Os policiais continuam livres, fazendo o que sabem fazer: matando gente nas favelas.

Well, you were pretty consistent and pretty patient putting on that 5 stone. So it has to work int the opposite way as well.

Say if you were given £500,000 today. How likely are you to be “right, where’s the Ferrari dealership?” Point is just, searching for that extravagant thing to blow your money on.

Dagens energi er meget stærk med et glimt af magi.

Energien på verdensplan skruer op og det tegner til at blive en uge med et lidt hurtigere tempo end den foregående uge, trods retrograd.

Denne mandagsenergi skubber ugen i gang og det er energimæssigt en super god dag til at få styr på en masse ting. Det kan være praktiske sager og gøremål eller det kan være langt mere flyvske ting som erkendelser eller forståelser indeni dig som på en eller anden måde kan ”ordnes” i dag.

I know the nutrition/diet/health industry is a little fucked up, so many confusing and conflicting messages all trying to sell ‘the best way’, reaching us via so many avenues. 
Today I was surprised that even in Waterstones, the Nutrition and Fitness section was full of ‘fad diet this’ and ‘bikini body that’. With no way to tell if any of them were truly evidence-based or contained anything real and useful.
Books feel real, sturdy and trustworthy. I feel naive for believing this in today’s environment. Anyone can write and publish a book. ANYONE. I couldn’t even find the gut science book I was looking for.
I can’t wait to learn as much as possible with MNU and start sharing. Nutrition doesn’t need to be as complex as negotiating this minefield. .

Having regular contact with clients has helped me find the right method which works for them but also finding techniques to overcome their barriers if things don’t go to plan.⠀

If things don’t go to plan as its never plain sailing, it’s important to be aware that we are all human and we cannot stick to things every waking min!⠀

Having to deal with the everyday life and sometimes craving foods and going on a crazy binge are hard to deal with.⠀

Being able to work on preventing issues like this occurring can help a great deal!⠀

My Fitness Pal has a Streak feature measuring how many days you log track your food utilising the app.
.
To be blunt. I do not like it and find it problematic.  Before I continue, as I have mentioned many times before, I love MFP, love tracking, it is a valuable, process focused tool that I get many of my clients to utilise. .
HOWEVER. It has to be used with caution and here is why. MyFitnessPal is a tool to provide with education and accountability. It is not something to dictate your life. I have spoken about the dangers of people with addictive or obsessive personalities using MFP in the past but above anything we have to approach it with the fact that we are not going to use MFP for the rest of our lives.
.
Building to a certain level of autonomy within our eating is going to be beneficial. Gaining a greater understanding of what calories are in what, being able to better quantify an adequate level of protein and fibre is hugely beneficial. But, success in the long term goes way beyond just understanding the laws of thermodynamics.
.
We need to gain a greater understanding of our hunger signals. Healthier patterns of eating during times of stress/ anxiety and work on having a relationship where we do not restrict and do not demonise food.
.
The issue I have is that becoming reliant on MFP and can control our hunger signals, eating just because we have macros available and then we have other people seeing what obscure combination of food they ‘fit in their macros’ as opposed to building a foundation of nutrient dense food choices and then finally does not always address our relationship with food.
.
My answer is a balance of both. Periods of tracking but also periods of going without. Showing that you can walk the walk without the aid of MFP which is going to serve us into our 80s and beyond. So if you have a high streak on MFP, maybe try going without?

From the day we are born, our attitudes and beliefs in and around food are framed and the reasons why people get under their own feet stems from a number of different factors. But regardless of personality traits, past, relationship with food, current levels of self- esteem, I am here to tell you there is freedom in vulnerability. .
The most successful clients that I have worked with are the ones that reach out with their hands in the air and own every past decision that they have made and listen completely openly. Once we get over that hurdle there is a freedom where there is limitless potential to what can be achieved because you have a two way communication pathway .

When you base your diet around whole foods, the nutrient-density of your diet increases and you are less likely to overconsume these foods. It's much easier to overconsume on highly palatable, processed foods that contain high amounts of sugar and fat.

Being in a calorie deficit and sustaining it can be a big mental challenge. Feeling hungry while on a diet is miserable. Load up on high satiety foods that allow you to eat less calories without feeling deprived.
Have a decent amount of protein with each meal. Include high fibre foods and load up on veg.

️4 Unorthodox Ways To Setup Your Macros️
_
To my team and I, these aren’t super unusual or different. But I use the word unorthodox because what’s common inside nutritional strategies is typically:
_
Set Maintenance → Cut 150-500 Cal → Repeat
_
The reality is, periodization just means to plan. I’d add, intelligently plan or to have a long term thought process with your plan, too. But it is simply having a plan & although the above IS a plan & it does work, especially when you’re on a specific timeline... it might not be the most advantageous to adherence, longevity, strength, metabolic health, & education for the diet after the diet. 
_
So here’s some different methods to use:
_
→5/2 Split
5 deficit days, 2 consecutive refeed days. The size of the deficit ranges person to person, but typically it needs to be aggressive enough to a create loss. The refeeds should be maintenance level calories via carbs, but just tracking cal/protein theoretically would work too.
_
→3-4 On/1 Off
Same idea, but more time in both the deficit as well as maintenance. This is 3-4 weeks of dieting followed by a 7-10 day diet break (maintenance). The difference in this & 5/2? Personally preference & adherence, we can’t really say ones better than the other.
_
→6/1 Intermittent Fasting
This is a slower approach & doesn’t work for everyone, but just having ONE single deficit day to create your total weekly deficit can actually work well. The strategy? Simple. Fast for 24 hours one day a week. You’ll essentially create a decent size deficit & get the benefits of fasting.
_
→Caloric Undulation
Like how I made myself sound smart, instead of just saying carb cycling? 🤓 This is just having high days & low days, usually pairing the high days with training. This works great for some because adherence & performance may increase, but still it just tackles the main goal of creating a weekly deficit.
_
Now, what’re the 2 things that they all have in common to actually create results?
_
️They create a caloric deficit.
️They include maintenance periods.
_
We do this because we NEED to create a deficit, but also allow ‘breaks’ as a type of insurance policy on your performance & metabolic health.

@preetigogulapati How do you find what your calorie level at maintenance should be? Should you calculate it for what it is now or for the you at your goal weight?

@cody.boomboom @preetigogulapati for what it is now. The best thing to do is track for 1-2 weeks and take your average intake. That’s your current maintenance which is the most accurate/relevant starting point

Okay, so we all probably get caught up in this trap to some degree at some point. Maybe you’re a student who can’t wait to escape the lectures & labs. Maybe you work a standard 9-5 and the weekends are spent doing the things you enjoy with people you actually care about.

In the space I’m in, where I see this mentality most often is in regards to diet and “cheat meals”. How many people are on the Monday-Friday diet??? Where you eat “on track” on the weekdays and let all caution go to the wind on the weekends?

For many, this aligns with the schedule of their lives as a whole. During the week, you work structured hours, are on a regular routine... so eating well seems to be a very manageable task!

Then, the weekends are for “fun”. You socialize on the weekends, hangout with friends & family, go on date nights, sleep in and stay up late... all situations that encourage different eating habits than your regular weekday schedule.

AND THIS MAY WORK WELL FOR YOU... if reigning in your diet extra hard during the week to allow flexibility with your diet & social life on the weekends is a good balance and allows you to maintain the health, fitness level and physique you’re happy with... that’s totally fine.

The fault I see in this is the mentality. When you’re forcing yourself to eat unnecessarily strict Monday-Friday just to compensate for overdoing it on the weekends with food and alcohol... you’re approaching this THE WRONG WAY.

You’re encouraging a bad cycle - what some may term the binge-restrict cycle that is accompanied by guilt, shame, restriction, feeling miserable... then repeat.

If you HATE your diet through the week, no wonder you feel pulled to overdo it on the weekends.

The INCONSISTENCY is not only hindering your results but is preventing you from living a life you’re truly happy with.

You shouldn’t HAVE to escape your diet on the weekends.

Eat a balanced diet you ENJOY, ALL THE TIME... and that consistency will bring you better results. Whether that means having a slice of pizza on a Tuesday, a glass of wine on a Wednesday night. Practice moderation all 7 days of the week & you’ll be healthier, happier & free.

Nossa história de religiosidade de matriz africana, abriga muitos símbolos, atitudes e práticas de culto ancestral que nos foram legadas por esses povos.
A reflexão que propomos hoje, após a mais um terrível episódio de demonstração de ódio religioso, desta vez na Nova Zelândia é quanto ao perigo do culto ao ódio. 
Comportamentos cheios de ódio, aparentemente foram homenageados pela mídia e opção política dos eleitores brasileiros. Muitos foram os alertas para tais opções uma vez que davam margens a uma reentrada do fascismo em nossa salas, cozinhas, varandas e avenidas.

Mas, o ódio e sua energia poderosa foi tomando conta de estudantes, religiosos, homens e até mulheres,  autorizando maldades, xingamentos,  grosserias, agressões e mortes.

Nas periferias a matança de negras de negros jovens se tornou a principal forma de atuação de estado genocida e de milícias armadas, cada vez mais numerosas e fortalecidas pelo aval de politicos, membros do judiciário e pessoas do povo que acreditam na justiça pelas próprias mãos. 
Assim, as  sentenças de morte são executadas diariamente em nossas favelas e territórios indígenas e quilombolas.

A pergunta sobre a morte da vereadora MARIELLE FRANCO, cuja ordem executória veio desse quadro de ódio generalizado e acobertado por forças anti Direitos Humanos, precisa ser respondida e nós precisamos de reagir a todas as violações de direitos e liberdades cometidas no Brasil das armas em punho.

Agora mesmo, enquanto postamos pessoas estão sendo mortas.
