This is the grammiest thing I’ve ever posted on the gram; framing, colours, crushed blacks, desaturation and vignetting, even the waterfall as a subject... Fucking made myself a damn preset after editing this one too, who knew those were a thing, and here I spent hours trying to edit each shot individually. Feel all dirty now like I need a bath.

I’ve been very fortunate in having the opportunity to travel quite a bit this past year; going back to school and transitioning into a new position in the health field has consumed much of my time. So it’s nice to have shortcuts when it comes to planning trips, which @expedia excels at, making it easy to book flights, hotels and arrange for transportation, all while being conveniently compiled in one app. There is an in-app exclusive coupon with 90% off on select hotels launching December 13th - link in my bio. Highly suggest you check it out, I certainly will be!
This shot was taken at the break-taking Cannon Beach in Oregon, one of the most relaxing places I’ve ever experienced. Easy to #HitReset and recharge with sunsets like these. What’s your favourite last minute getaway? #ad #Expedia

Well, these falls kinda blew my mind... Damien @epicapictures told me that this place reminded him of a majestic African waterfall when viewed in the summer, so then I proceeded to have Africa by Toto stuck in my head for the remainder of the week, and the song has made a resurgence as of posting this.

@smaku Thunder Bay has some great falls that I would love to visit one day!

After showing off their modelling skills, a gang of bull elk decide to bolt off the frozen tundra, in search of some greener pastures... I’d originally edited this shot almost a year ago, with intentions to post it sooner - better late than never.

@discovery Wow!

When you enjoying a relaxing moment on the lake in Oregon, but also fighting with the screen autofocus on your camera for several minutes. Thought I finally beat that mofo upon review, but alas it turns out to have bested me... again - no foreground focus. Lesson noted, either manually adjust from here on out, or just bite the bullet and buy one of them sweet sweet mirrorless thingamajigger. If you guys had to purchase a new full-frame mirrorless, strictly for wildlife and landscape photography, what would it be, and why!?

@smaku So nice buddy! Soon enough it will be like this down here!👍

When there are no natural predators because your family migrated to a sweet Peninsula, you have to be keenly astute of your environmental surroundings; using your ears as a radar device is one way of feinting ignorance to a more primal time where carrots and apples didn’t appear out of thin air, and people were trying to use your skull to make spoons/wear your skin as a winter parka.

Been stoked to edit this shot for awhile now - considered myself super lucky to find a trio of swans (parents and kiddo), on my travels through northwestern Ontario. Sometimes you just end up sitting on photos, until the right moment strikes. In this particular shot, the juvenile swan was off harassing some ducks while the parents employed the classic dabbing technique in order to ascertain some roots and stems below the waters surface. It’s typical of swans to form socially monogamous pair bonds that can last many years to a lifetime, and they are one of the only sub species that the male will help build the nest and gestate the eggs.

If you’ve been to Lost Lake, there’s no doubt you’ll never forget the ride there; I haven’t been on a road that had more sharp u-turns and loops in my life, like a solid 30 mins worth. Add to the fact that I was in a hurry trying to chase the last bit of light before shooting some stars, and had all my belongings packed loosely in the back of a van - it was a scene straight out of dumb-and-dumber, just substitute a bunch of furry mongrels with camera gear. After finally reaching the lake and stumbling around all over the shoreline in the dark, I perched my camera up on a tripod, hit the shutter for a long exposure, and soaked up the scene in complete bewilderment as I watched the galaxy rotate slowly around Mt Hood...

@smaku Excellent edit here buddy! Love the soft tones too! 👍

Looking back on the summer days with fond memories; met some rad people, and travelled all over the province covering nearly every nook and cranny - couldn't have asked for more.

@smaku You mean you even visited my back yard?! I think not! 🤣

Tis’ the season... ️ Trying something a little different for Halloween this year. Took a lot of damn blowing to get the flames poppin’ just right out of this pumpkin head - finally snapped some nightmare fuel. I had a tube rigged up to the back of the pumpkin, duct taped to the underside of my arm with the other end in my mouth, trying to get some air in there, ahaha. All the while holding the head in my left hand and the camera in the right, looked fucking ridiculous. On a side not, my arm and face smelt of Russian dressing and Caesar mix combo, slathered all over the place. Aaaaaand, I’m just gonna end up deleting this post cause it does not belong in the feed at all... worth it.

Since we haven’t had a whole lot of sunshine up north this fall, only the odd occasion where the sun peaks through the clouds, it’s been awfully wet outside as a result. Fortunately, I’ve had a pair of Baffin boots that have helped me access all manner of bogs, wetlands and marshes when out on photography sessions. Have to admit, they’ve been extremely comfortable and have kept my feet nice and dry throughout every excursion. Being a nice shade of camo, they are invisible to boot! #BaffinWithUs #Ad

Enjoying a beautiful morning sunrise out at Lost Lake, having spent all night shooting the stars surrounding Mt. Hood, when I start to realize there are multiple birds flying about. Of course I left my telephoto lens in the vehicle, so I figured, fuck it, those guys aren’t doing much, they’re across the lake anyway, and continue doing my landscape thing. Well, the birds started to get a lot closer, and began to dive bomb the glassy water surrounding my perch - I remember muttering son-of-a-bitch, as I bolted 500m back to my car, grabbing the lens. Upon eye-balling these guys with my beastly reclaimed gear, I see a large squad of Osprey scooping up prey during an advantageous AM light, and it just so happens I don’t have any sweet shots of this particular species... Moral of the story, don’t be a lazy fuck, bring all your equipment, even if the lens is the size of your arm; you never know when opportune moments will arise.

Since people have asked what lens I typically use for wildlife on the regular - it’s the #Sigma 150-600mm telephoto. While not being quite as sharp as a prime lens, the advantages of having a large zoom range significantly outweigh clarity, in my opinion, allowing for much greater diversity in composition.
