The Contax Tix is a dead camera β€” or rather, it shoots a now-dead format: APS. APS (Advanced Photo System) was created by Kodak in the 1990s to be the future of film, at least for consumers. This 24mm film had all sorts of modern improvements: 16x9 native ratio, a magnetic strip to record things like the date and optional crops for printing (P for Panoramic, cropping from the top and bottom, and C for Classic, a 2x3 crop from the left and right β€” this is where we get APS-C for the smaller digital sensors that followed). Film was stored within its canister, which also had handy markings on one end to let you know if it was a fresh roll, partially shot, completed, and finally processed. The film is all expired (the last batches being made in 2011), in short supply, and I’m absolutely loving the results from this tiniest of Contax cameras (note: many other camera brands also made APS cameras). Swipe to see the full HD version. #contax #apsfilm #contaxtix

Nighttime in Ella, Sri Lanka. I had a few frames of Cinestill left in the Pentax 67 and wanted to clear the roll before sunrise, so wandered around for an hour searching for neon and good reflections β€” found a parked bus down a side street, lined up my shot, set the shutter to 1/15 (yup), used the bus as a support, and waited for a car or tuk tuk to pass and pump its brakes. It took 20 minutes before a vehicle with working brake lights passed in the right direction. 🀣 #cinestill #6x7 #120film #filmisnotdead #pentax67

My archives are full of images I love that no one has ever seen. Passing moments, splashes of light and color; images I capture because I need to; not for a project, or for Instagram, or for anyone else β€” just for me. Sharing them here (and elsewhere) gives me an excuse to enjoy them for myself, as most of the joy for me is in making the frame in the first place, rather than seeing the finished result. Forget the algorithms, the audience, the requirements and expectations. Capture what makes you happy, and if the mood strikes you, share it. #coffee
