The teaser features the return of the classic Ecto-1 & while we don't see a lot, it's certain to get any fan of the original excited!

The end of the teaser says it's coming Summer 2020 & until then we can speculate who of the original cast will be returning & if Jason can carry on the torch started by his father Ivan Reitman who directed the original film.

Grading Shyamalan: The Sixth Sense .
.
With @glassmovie opening this week, I thought it would be fun to grade M. Night Shyamalan's filmography. We start with The Sixth Sense, the film that made Shyamalan a household name. Love to see how you'd grade it & hear your thoughts on if it still holds up or if you have any fun stories about seeing it for the first time. Sound off Cinephiles!
.
.
My grade: A
.
.
Why: The Sixth Sense transcends being a ghost story & is really a top notch drama dealing with two characters crossing paths who need each other to grow & transition in their own right. The acting is top notch, particularly Haley Joel Osment & Toni Collette, although Bruce Willis' understated turn is aldo worthy of a mention. There is genuine tension & suspense & the ending still really holds up. It's still his best film for me, although Unbreakable is a close second.

News Reelz: This is not a drill! It has just been announced that Jason Reitman is directing and co-writing an upcoming Ghostbusters film set in the world that was saved decades previously by the proton pack-wearing working stiffs in the original 1984 movie, which was directed by his father, Ivan Reitman.
.
.
Here is a quite from Reitman describing the project: I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
.
.
@sonypictures has set a release for the summer of 2020 which means this project didn't just happen over night. They also plan to start filming in a few months.
.
.
It has not been revealed who may be starring in the film or what the plot details are. Reitman wants to unvail things slowly & make it a true sweet for the fans. This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.
.
.
As for the all-female reboot directed by Paul Feig? While Reitman respects what he did with that film, it will not be connected at all to his story.
.
.
Are you excited for this next chapter in Ghostbusters lore? Sound off!

Happy anniversary to Varsity Blues, released 20 years ago today! My friends and I still quote this movie today and I think it holds up pretty well. What allows it to stand out is that it wasn't the typical teen rom-com from that era. I think they strived for something a bit different and they succeeded. Does it reinvent the football film? No, but I think they approached football life in Texas with as much accuracy as they could. Kudos to the ensemble cast which is good from top to bottom. Are you a fan of Varsity Blues? Sound off! In the meantime, here are some fun facts about the film:
.
.
1. In the scene where Darcy (Ali Larter) sports her whipped-cream-bikini, shaving cream was used. Whipped cream wouldn't stick right.
.
.
2. Paul Walker broke his leg during filming.
.
.
3. Moxon (James Van Der Beek) wears jersey #4 in homage to Van Der Beek's favorite football player, Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.
.
.
4. Ali Larter's (Darcy's) movie debut.
.
.
5. Although the character Billy Bob was supposed to be an eighteen-year-old high school senior, Ron Lester, who portrayed Billy Bob, was twenty-eight-years-old at the time this was filmed.
.
.
6. Joshua Jackson was considered for the role of Mox.
.
.
7. University of Toronto trademarked the name Varsity Blues for its sports teams in the mid 1980s. U of T complained the movie presented sports in a negative light, and sued Paramount Pictures, settling for an undisclosed amount and setting up eight scholarships for academically accomplished student athletes.
.
.
8. The announcers weren't real actors. The announcers called local high school games in Texas. In fact, the announcers called a high school game in Texas that was labelled the greatest high school comeback ever between Plano East and John Tyler, in 1994.
.
.
9. The High School Fight Song played at the pep rally is the Texas A&M War Hymn.
.
.
10. Ali Larter and Amy Smart are best friends in real-life, and have been for twenty years.

It’s a big morning for Spider-Man fans! Not only did we get the first official teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home but we also got an international teaser trailer that offers up different footage not seen in the official teaser.
.
.
The two trailers are pretty close to identical but the international trailer does give us significantly different footage. For instance, the first 30 seconds of the international trailer is completely different when compared to the official teaser. The standard trailer opens with Peter and Aunt May at some sort of fundraiser while the international trailer opens with Peter going through airport security in Europe.
.
.
The trailer also contains a few different shots that don’t appear elsewhere. They mostly just consist of establishing shots of Europe and Peter and Ned in an airplane. This won’t spark fan debate or theories but it is interesting that international trailers tend to offer up certain footage that may appeal more to an international audience.
.
.
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits screens on July 5 and check out a new poster released for the film by swiping left! You can also view the full international teaser on my IGTV!

It's time for your spidey-sense to tingle yet again. A trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home has launched & it looks like one hell of a ride.
.
.
The new film takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame—whose trailer was released last month. Spider-Man was last seen in last year's Avengers: Infinity War, and his fate didn't look too promising. In the new movie, he obtains a black stealth suit, in addition to a red and black Spidey costume—a change from his red and blue one seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
.
.
Tom Holland returns in the title role & the film also stars returning actors Zendaya (M.J.), Michael Keaton (Adrian Toomes/Vulture), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan) and Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), as well as newcomers Jake Gyllenhaal, who will play supervillain Mysterio/Quentin Beck, and Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson, who will reprise their Avengers role of Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill.

News Reelz: Steven Spielberg is rounding out the cast for his West Side Story remake and the director has finally found his Maria.
.
.
High school student Rachel Zegler, who responded to the production’s open casting call for Latinx actors with a video of herself singing “Tonight” and “Me Siento Hermosa,” will be making her film debut starring in the role played by Natalie Wood in the 1961 classic. Zegler will star opposite Ansel Elgort, who was cast as Tony last year.
.
.
In addition to Zegler, Spielberg has also cast the principal Shark roles. Broadway veterans Ariana DeBose and David Alvarez have been cast as Anita and Bernardo while Theater performer Josh Andrés Rivera has been cast as Chino. It was also announced last year that Rita Moreno, who co-starred in the original film and took home an Oscar for her role, will play Valentina, a reconceived and expanded version of the character of Doc.
.
.
Spielberg has been striving for authenticity while conceiving the reboot. His team has been conducting research and having conversations with Hispanic heritage and advocacy groups. In December 2018, Spielberg and Tony Kushner, who is adapting West Side Story, sat with professors and students at the University of Puerto Rico (Universidad de Puerto Rico – Río Piedras) to learn more about performing arts on the island. The production team maintains a dialogue with the University and Puerto Rican filmmakers there.

News Reelz: Fresh off his Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor for The Americans, Matthew Rhys has landed his next TV role. Rhys will play the lead in Perry Mason, a new HBO limited series.
.
.
Rhys will play the classic character in the reboot, which tracks the unorthodox investigator/defense attorney’s origin story. Perry Mason is in the process of hiring a director and comes from Robert Downey Jr.’s production company, Team Downey, a company started with his wife Susan Downey.
.
.
The reimagined Perry Mason is set in 1932 Los Angeles and is based on characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner. The limited series follows the origins of American Fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason (Rhys). When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.
.
.
The project was originally set up at HBO in 2016, with Nic Pizzolatto writing and Robert Downey Jr. attached to play the title character. Pizzolatto turned his attention to the third installment of his HBO series True Detective, with Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald stepping in as writers, and it also became clear, because of Downey’s feature commitments, that he would be unable to act in the series, so a search began for an actor to play the title character.
.
.
Matthew Rhys is an Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice award winner for his portrayal of Philip Jennings on critically acclaimed FX drama series The Americans which recently wrapped its sixth and final season. He is also known for playing Kevin Walker for five seasons on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters.

News Reelz: For some reason I knew this was bound to happen but now we have official confirmation. New Line Cinema is officially rebooting The Final Destination franchise.
.
.
New Line has hired Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to pen the script. Melton and Dunstan are horror vets best known for penning four of the Saw movies. They were winners on season three of Project Greenlight and also wrote Piranha 3DD. They also penned the upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark for CBS Films and are working with horror producers Platinum Dunes on an untitled Christmas horror project set up at Sony and The Reckoning at Paramount.
.
.
Final Destination proved to be a cornerstone for New Line’s horror business in the early 2000s. The first movie, released in 2000, set up the concept that a character has a premonition of a horrific and deadly event, cheats his or her own death and saves several other lives’ in the process, only to have Death, as an unpersonified but unstoppable force, come, one by one, for the survivors. The first movie was directed by James Wong and starred Devon Sawa and Ali Larter, making $112 million worldwide on only a $23 million budget. Four more installments followed through 2011 & the franchise has grossed $700 million worldwide.

News Reelz: It's that sequel you always here is going to happen but you won't believe it, until you see it. Well, it looks like it's finally happening because @paramountpics has officially set Craig Brewer to direct Coming to America 2.

Eddie Murphy is poised to reprise his role as Akeem, the pampered African prince who became bored of potential marriage partners in the kingdom too in awe of him, and who traveled to Queens to go undercover and find a woman with a strong will that he could respect. .
.
Brewer seems like an obvious choice since he just directed Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name & apparently he was eager to work with him again. Kenya Barris, of Black-ish fame, is rewriting the script from original Coming to America writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield.
.
.
In the sequel, Akeem learns about a long lost son, and must return to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda. The hope is to bring back other original cast members such as Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos & James Earl Jones.

Some of us been in the orbit of @younetflix since it premiered back in September on @lifetimetv. It instantly became prime addiction TV but for some reason no one was talking about it. Lifetime renewed it early for season 2, showing faith in the series based on its glowing reviews but the viewers simply weren't there & it definitely wasn't the water cooler show they were hoping for. .
.
Netflix picked up exclusive streaming rights when Lifetime began airing the series & a month or two back it was announced that Lifetime would not be going through with season 2 but Netflix was picking it up. When the first season became available on Netflix, suddenly everyone started to discover the show & now they realize that this was one of the best shows that no one was watching...until now.
.
.
The first season is based on the eponymous 2014 novel by Caroline Kepnes and follows Joe Goldberg, a New York bookstore manager (portrayed by Penn Badgley) who falls in love with a customer named Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and quickly becomes obsessed with her. Badgley cleverly plays the role by balancing charm & an undeniable creepiness that has the actor working at his best. He's not one to root for or be attracted to (ladies, Badgley has publicy said NO ONE should be attracted to Joe) but his ability to gaslight his would be obsession makes every episode of the series standout end makes you wonder what is going to happen next.
.
.
Netflix has proven to be the right home for You. It didn't quite have the necessary reach on Lifetime to truly resonate. [You] just feels like a really great story to tell with the Netflix model. It was always built to be extremely binge-able, You's co-showrunner Sera Gamble told Vulture in December. The fast rate that users are binging the series, seems to prove that point.
.
.
I don't know much about season 2 but when it was renewed it was said to be based on Kepnes' follow-up novel Hidden Bodies. You had been longing to be that water cooler show that everyone is talking about & now it can claim that honor. Bring on season 2!

News Reelz: To go along with a whacky awards season where anything is possible (looking at you Bohemian Rhapsody), it looks like the Oscars will go without a host for the first time since 1989.
.
.
Here is a quote obtained by the good people at @variety: “Producers will select a crop of A-listers to introduce various segments instead of relying on one marquee name to kick things off in a monologue filled with Trump zingers.” The show is also expected to “play up a high-profile year for music in film, thanks to likely nominees Lady Gaga, Dolly Parton, and Kendrick Lamar.
.
.
This will be a huge and rare departure for the Super Bowl of Awards shows. The last time the Oscars aired without a single host was in 1989. The show included actor Rob Lowe performing a duet with Snow White & it's largely considered one of the most embarrassing moments in Oscar history.
.
.
In case you've been living under a rock, Kevin Hart was originally named as Oscars host last year, but he stepped down after a series of past homophobic tweets were brought up. The Academy reportedly offered Hart an ultimatum: apologize or step down, and the actor chose the latter. He later told Ellen DeGeneres that he was tired of defending himself, adding that he’s apologized for using homophobic language in the past. On his own SiriusXM show, Hart apologized and told Michael Strahan on Good Morning America today that he “was over it,” confirming he wouldn’t host the Oscars.

News Reelz: It's a good news/bad news kind of day for fans of Criminal Minds. @cbstv has renewed the long-running criminal procedural for a 15th season but it will also be Its last.
.
.
The upcoming season will be 10 episodes long and will be shot on the heels of the current season. By the time it wraps, Criminal Minds will have completed 325 episodes, making it one of the longest running TV dramas. The crime series, which is show-run by executive producer Erica Messer, follows an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country's most twisted criminal minds, attempting to anticipate their next moves before they strike again.
.
.
The series has been a cornerstone of the CBS schedule, though its ratings have fallen in recent years. In Live+Same Day, Season 14 is currently averaging a 0.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 4.7 million viewers per episode, though those numbers have typically risen noticeably in delayed viewing.
.
.
Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, and Daniel Henney. While the series has been a mainstay for CBS, it has also seen its share of controversy. The show’s long-time director of photography, Greg St. Johns, had faced multiple accusations of abusive behavior and sexual harassment towards crew members. St. Johns has since left the production. Prior to that, series star Thomas Gibson was fired from the show after an on-set altercation with a producer.

Happy anniversary to Big Fish, released 15 years ago yesterday! I can't believe I missed this one yesterday but I need to give it its props today. Big Fish is one of my favorite movies & it's honestly one of Tim Burton's best. It's a beautiful film & its heart and sincerity is evident in every single frame. I think Burton is at his best when he truly connects to the material and I think it's clear he's truly connected to this project. Are you a fan of Big Fish? Sound off! In the meantime, here are some fun facts about the film:
.

1. When Norther Winslow shows his half finished poem to Edward (Grass so green/Skies so blue/Spectre is really great!), the handwriting is director Tim Burton's.
.
.
2. Ewan McGregor was cast as Young Ed Bloom when producers noticed the striking similarity between him and pictures of a young Albert Finney, who plays Senior Ed Bloom.
.
.
3. French actress Marion Cotillard's first American feature film.
.
.
4. When young Edward Bloom is singing in the church and his voice breaks, that single note that we hear is actually Ewan McGregor singing.
.
.
5. Helena Bonham Carter was pregnant during filming.
.
.
6. Steven Spielberg was attached to this project and wanted Jack Nicholson to star, but dropped out due to his full schedule, soon after which Tim Burton signed on to direct.
.
.
7. For scenes in the United States, Alabama was the only state where filming took place. One scene included France, where Will and Joséphine lived at the time.
.
.
8. Miley Cyrus has a small roll as one of Edward's childhood friendship group.
.
.
9. Following the disappearance of author and monologist Spalding Gray in 2004, this was stated to have been the last movie he saw.

Happy anniversary to Batman Beyond, which premiered 20 years ago today! I remember being thrown off by this incarnation of the Batman legend but being instantly transfixed by its top notch animation & really painted an interesting look into a futuristic Dark Knight. Crazy it only lasted from 1999-2001 but it definitely left its mark. Were you a fan of Batman Beyond? Sound off! In the meantime, here are some fun facts about the show:
.
.
1. The WB network never allowed Bruce Wayne's age to be revealed in this series because they didn't want him to be old and decrepit. In one episode where Bruce has a birthday, the writers said his age in the initial script but had to take it out because the WB network would not allow it. The producers say Bruce Wayne was about 80.
.
.
2. Starting with season 2, the WB network wanted more stories to be about the high school drama and less about corporate corruption. The writers even joked about that with having Bruce Wayne in one episode say, I've seen it all: demons, witch boys, immortals, zombies. But this thing, I don't know, it just feels so...high school.
.
.
3. Will Friedle had never done any voice acting before auditioning for Batman/Terry Mcginnis.
.
.
4. One of the rules of Saturday morning TV was to never fire a gun at the camera. However, this series managed it several times in the second season premiere. One scene was even used in a promotional clip for the episode.
.
.
5. In other countries Batman Beyond is called Batman of the Future.
.
.
6. The working title for a long time was Batman Tomorrow, in fact all the development art had Batman Tomorrow on it. However, the title was changed because it would be too hard to do promotional interstitials for a show called Batman Tomorrow.
.
.
7. Paul Dini has stated that the primary reason this show was made was to sell toys.
.
.
8. Studio demands in the second season were the primary reason Max Gibson was created.
.
.
9. The series borrows heavily from the popular anime Akira (1988).
.
.
10. Jamie Kellner really liked the idea of an old Bruce Wayne.

Happy first anniversary post of 2019! Today's anniversary belongs to The Sopranos, which premiered 20 years ago today! The Sopranos deserves credit for many things. Not only is it a superb mob drama but it's also an intelligent look into family dynamics (in the home & within the mob) they features nuanced characters & performances. It's also one of the first series to truly show the power of cable programming by crafting scripted television that was bigger in scope than what was being seen on the small screen. It set a standard & I think most cable dramas that have come after it, owe a debt to its success. Are you a fan of The Sopranos? Sound off! In the meantime, here are some fun facts about the show:
.
.
1. To settle salary disputes after season four, James Gandolfini gave each cast member thirty-three thousand three hundred thirty-three dollars from his own pocket.
.
.
2. James Gandolfini said that he was often contacted by real-life wise guys, complimenting him on the authenticity of the series, as well as giving him advice.
.
.
3. Series Creator David Chase had one rule for the scenes at Dr. Melfi's office: no camera movements.
.
.
4. David Chase once admitted that though it worked dramatically, he considered the storyline of Tony and Carmela's separation not believable, because mobsters and their wives usually don't get divorced.
.
.
5. It is said that during some scenes, James Gandolfini inserted a small stone in his shoe to anger him, making him play the role of Tony Soprano more authentically. He would also stay awake all night for some of the breakfast scenes, to achieve a tired look.
.
.
6. Lorraine Bracco was originally asked to play the role of Carmela Soprano, but she felt that the part was too similar to her character in Goodfellas. She decided the role of Dr. Melfi would be more challenging.
.
.
7. As of 2007, the show's staff had accumulated six Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, a record. Every season but the second received Emmys for the writing.
