Photo by @ChrisBurkard One of my favorite parts about aerial photography is how it can give you an uncommon perspective. Especially in mountainous zones you gain the ability to see areas and features that would otherwise take days to reach by foot. This pristine alpine lake in the heart of the Southern Alps of New Zealand is a great example. Frozen and snowed over for most of the year, it’s only in the summer months that these hidden gems reveal themselves. There are hundreds of these scattered throughout the region, and their waterfalls are responsible for feeding the braided glacial rivers thousands of feet below.

This incredible landscape is shaped by water and time. It rains here very rarely and when it does the flows carve through the basin creating amazing patterns. Photo by @PaulNicklen // Sharing the ocean with orcas just doesn't get old. The dynamics between the members of a pod never ceases to amaze me. Their formations, cunning movements, and teamwork are carefully calculated as I watch them corral a school of herring. Herring are a foundational food source in the Great Orca Fjords of Lofoten, supporting one of the largest orca populations in the world. My team and I are in Norway right now working on a project to showcase the importance of these species and their habitat. #FollowMe @PaulNicklen for more orca photos and to follow along with our expedition. #Norway #orca #grateful #ocean #nature

Its 2,700 miles of coastline offer some of the most stunning scenery in Alaska. Enjoy the accessible glaciers for kayaking, hiking, trekking and even rappelling or raft nearby rivers and mountain bike the local trails. The unparalleled natural scenery is matched only by the endless adventures to be had. Photo by @kevinfaingnaert // The quiet, beautiful village of Bøur on the Faroe Islands. Bøur is located on the west-side of Vágar island and counts 65 inhabitants. It has a magnificent view over the sea and the rocky islet Tindholmur with its many peaks. Last year during winter, I spent half a day sitting at the small beach of Bøur, dipping my toes in the cold dark water .I thought of all the places in the world, including those that were hotter, sunnier and drier, and knew that there was nowhere else I would have rather been. #faroeislands

Last night, crystal clear sky and spectacular landscape of the Rocky Mountains in moonlight. The Milky Way was still faintly visible thanks to the high altitude and transparent air. Above the frozen lake are the Maroon Bells, the two iconic peaks of the Elk Mountains, near Aspen.
