Exciting opportunity, guys! This weekend only the incredible @kakapo_recovery team is hosting viewings of this years hand-reared kākāpō chucks in Invercargill from Saturday to Monday (event details can be found on their FB page). With only 147 kākāpō left in the world, and a record breaking 74 chicks born this season (kākāpō don’t breed every year) this is a very big deal and an incredible opportunity to meet the future of this quirky species ❤️ thanks to the tireless hard work of @kakapo_recovery hopefully we’ll see these night parrots flourish back in our forests one day! I was lucky enough to spend some time with last seasons chicks in 2016 and I can heartily attest to their cuteness. Because New Zealand’s kākāpō live on offshore islands, this is one of the only chances you would get to see them up close. I can’t wait to greet the new chicks and I’ll be down on Saturday, hope to see you guys there! #kakaporecovery #birdnerd #fluffballs
