In the late 1700’s Phrenology; the measurement of bumps on the skull to determine personality and mental traits was extremely popular.

Modern research has since discredited phrenology.
Phrenology may have been a pseudoscience but some of its elements foreshadowed modern psychology. 
For example, phrenologists assumed different brain regions had distinct skills or functions. That idea has returned in today's neuroscience.

Modern research into personality has categorised it into the ‘Big Five’ personality traits, these are: Neuroticism (how moody a person is), Extraversion (how enthusiastic a person is), Openness (how open-minded a person is), Agreeableness (a measure of altruism), and Conscientiousness (a measure of self-control). Researchers have looked at differences in the brain cortical anatomy (the structure of the outer layer of the brain) by three measures – the area, the thickness and the amount of folding in the cortex; and how these measures relate to the Big Five personality traits.

Research has implied that high levels of neuroticism, was associated with increased thickness as well as reduced area and folding in some regions of the cortex such as the prefrontal-temporal cortices at the front of the brain.

In contrast, openness, which is a personality trait linked with curiosity, creativity and a preference for variety and novelty, was associated with the opposite pattern, reduced thickness and an increase in area and folding in some prefrontal cortices.

On a vacation to Busch Gardens this weekend with @jass_amador . The first picture is a picture of the hotel gym. Super small and dumbbells only go up to 50lbs. But no excuses, you can always make these situations work for you. By altering exercise selection, order, tempo, position, and all 1 million other variables at your control.

Here’s the push workout we did:
1. Seated dumbbell shoulder press, 3x8-12.
2. Low incline dumbbell chest flies, 3x8-12.
3. Flat bench dumbbell squeeze press, 3x8-12.
4. Seated dumbbell lateral raises, 3x8-12.
5. Seated overhead dumbbell tricep ext, 3x8-12.

All exercises performed 1-2 reps before failure to keep the intensity high. Notice on the last exercise how I started with the dumbbell far away from the back of my head. Then as the exercise goes on and I get fatigued I then bring the dumbbell closer to the back of my head. Mechanically speaking when the dumbbell is further away from the back of my head, the tougher it is on the triceps. Then as I bring it closer to my head it makes the lift a bit easier on the triceps. This is yet another way to make use of lighter weights if that’s all you have access too!

#hoodupheaddown - I’ve been going to the gym for almost 5 1/2 years and have stay consistent that whole time. No matter the weather I always wear a hoodie to the gym. For me, the hood helps me focus and zero in on the task ahead. The gym is my outlet and my time to better myself.  En musculation, il a 3 types d'entraînement : la force, l'hypertrophie et l'endurance. Nous allons d'abord voir comment gagner en force⁣

️ Faites des mouvements polyarticulaires ! Le soulevé de terre, squat, développé couché ou développé militaire sont des mouvements polyarticulaires. Ils sollicitent plusieurs muscles et vous aident à gagner en force plus rapidement qu'avec des exercices d'isolation. ⁣
⁣
 Faites des séries courtes ! Pour gagner en force, il faut faire des séries entre 4 et 6 répétitions. Si vous faites des compétitions de PowerLifting, vous pouvez faire des séries de 1-3 répétitions de temps en temps pour tester vos performances. ⁣
⁣
 Utilisez des charges lourdes ! Pour gagner en force il faut pousser lourd. Pour cela, il est important de connaître son maximum sur chaque mouvement (1 RM) afin de pouvoir adapter les charges. ⁣
️ Augmentez progressivement les charges afin de continuer à progresser.⁣
⁣
⏱️ Prenez des temps de repos plus long ! Contrairement aux autres types d'entraînement, les temps de repos doivent être long. Entre 2 et 3 minutes en fonction des exercices afin que vos muscles et votre système nerveux aient le temps de récupérer. ⁣
⁣
️ Attention, travailler en force nécessite de l'expérience. Il est déconseillé de commencer par ce type d'entraînement si vous êtes débutants ! De plus, la force se travaille par cycle. Les cycles de force d'un mois sont idéaux pour ne pas trop se fatiguer nerveusement, musculairement et articulairement️⁣

IV Puchar Bałtyku Jastarnia 2019 kończę na 4 miejscu, mimo że forma lepsza niż tydzień temu, to tym razem start w kategorii #kulturystykaklasyczna do 180cm jako najniższy, najlżejszy i debiutujący zawodnik uważam za ogromny sukces. Ze startu na start zdobywam cenne doświadczenie, dzięki któremu będę mógł być coraz to lepszym zawodnikiem. Dzisiaj było ciężko, 700 km w nocy bez snu, debiut żony @dariaboczar przy brązowaniu uważam za udany. Nie zamierzam się użalać jak inni, ze to nie moja kategoria itp. Poprostu dzisiaj inni byli lepiej przygotowani. Zabrakło pomocy przy scenie jaka miałem w #sopot ze strony @maciejszoka ale i tak dzięki Jego wskazówką osiągnąłem tak wiele w tak krótkim czasie. Lets dive into building a calf, just like any other muscle group they all take time.  Even if the calf can be a stubborn body part for most.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The calf is made up of two muscle groups the gastrocnemius and soleus.  They can be broken down a bit further into other muscle groups but for simplistic sake the one that everyone cares about is the gastrocnemius (used for running and jump) and the soleus lies beneath the gastrocnemius (used for standing and walking).

What makes the difference in targeting the two different muscle groups is whether the leg is in a straight position and our knees being in a bent position.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the knee is bent, as when doing seated calf raises, the gastroc is unable to fully stretch and, therefore, unable to strongly contract. In these bent-leg movements, only the soleus is targeted. When the leg is fully straightened, however, the gastroc is brought back into the action. Straight-legged calf exercises like the standing calf raise and donkey calf raise work both the gastroc and soleus.

Also don't forget about working the angles on your calf raise, by having your foot position inward you can target more of the inner portion of the calf while having them outward will target more outside area of the calf muscle.
