16 miles with a lot of muddy sections. Spent way too much time slipping and sliding and having my life flash before my eyes, but surprisingly stayed upright. The beautiful weather made up for the poo trail conditions  idk how I pulled off a 9:52 pace with all the walking, but I’ll take it!

Tempo run, done and dusted! (Oh and new shoes!!! I  Mizunos!) .
1.5k easy + 8k hard + 1.5k easy. In order to be able to maintain a hard pace for 8k, I ran the 1.5k between my house and #BenDunneGym and hopped on the treadmill for 8 sweaty km, before jogging back home. It was either that or 8k of loops in the park and  I have seen too much of this park recently  .

Hölkällä ja juoksulla on valtavasti eroja minun kielessäni. Isoin ero on jalan liikeradassa. Hölkkäaskel on usein matala ja tärähtävä, kun taas juokuaskel on korkea, vahva ja kimmoisa. Jotta juoksuaskel onnistuu, tarvitset ainakin vahvat pohkeet, lonkan + polven koukistajat ja lonkan ojentajat.

Kun katsot juoksijaa sivulta päin, huomaat että kontaktivaiheen lopussa polvi- ja lonkkanivel on täysin ojentuneena. Heti perään seuraa vaihe, jossa kantapää lähes koskettaa pakaraa. Eli toisin sanoen, takareisi tekee töitä koko liikelaajuudeellaan. 
Niin siis jos se pystyy tekemään tämän ja on riittävän vahva. ️ Tyypillinen näky lenkkipolulla on, että kumpikin näistä vaiheista puuttuu. Tällä on iso vaikutus juoksun taloudellisuuteen ja juoksuvauhtiin. 
Take home message:  Seuraavat 2kk vahvista takareisiä ainakin 2x /vko. Kehosi kiittää kesällä ja muut juoksijat voivat ihailla selkääsi kesäpoluilla

Made a mess of the first 4 miles because I forgot to stretch beforehand, and suffered absurd cramping in my feet, ankles, and calves. One of my favourite quotes from admittedly not the greatest film ever made, but I can't help loving it  After a day of marking coursework I summoned the Spartan spirit and dragged myself to the gym tonight to do my intervals. And crushed them!  40 days before the Hamburg marathon!! .
Meanwhile, my sister @angie_gu07 joined the #MagnusMethod army and was crushing her first ever #TombRaiderFitness session!!! Woohoo!! (I warned her she wouldn't be able to walk tomorrow  hehehe)

PUSH-UP CHALLENGE!  The last week at work we've been challenging each other to do 200 push ups a day. Now, that is WAY too many since I've been doing ZERO every day for the last year or so. But, I have been making an effort to do at least 50 a day. I'm definitely going to keep at it and try to build my strength up!

Today was 2x1200m & 4x800m with 2 minute rest between sprints. Super consistent splits hovering around 6:30/mi pace. Legs felt good after taking a few days break. It’s great being able to be outside for workouts on a consistent basis. Even got Adrian and Hayden out for some scout PT prep.

Today, nearly 25,000 people will be running the NYC Half Marathon from Prospect Park to Central Park. Some of these runners are elite, but majority of them are novice runners who have never ran a race before! We all love running and have experienced these races ourselves over the last few years. We have learned a lot from treating patients and research, but mostly from our own personal experiences. Here are some tips to help avoid injury while training:

1️⃣ Train! Pick a training program and stick with it! Research shows that runners who jump up their mileage too quickly increase their risk of injury. Increasing your mileage by 20% per week will decrease this risk! One of our favorite programs is the Furman First Training Program. #runlessrunfaster

2️⃣ Stretch! When training for long distance races, it is crucial that you spend time before and after your runs to stretch. Tightness in your hip flexors, hamstrings, and calves will increase your risk of having a number of different injuries (runners knee, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, etc). Performing a dynamic warm up pre- run and a static stretch (prolonged holds) post run is our recommendation. We really love to use the foam roller for flexibility as well! #hurtsogood ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣ Strengthen! Building and maintaining strength in your core and glutes helps improve running form, which will decrease your risk of injury! Unfortunately, many runners skip this part and end up becoming our patients! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣ Cross train! One great way to safely stick to your training schedule without overloading your joints is to mix in some other forms of cardio. We love using cycling, spin classes, and swimming as our cross training! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Just “ran” the most shameful 20 miles of my life today, in a whopping 4:07:24. I thought the lovely weather would help me pick up the pace, but WOW I was wrong. My phone/water holder kept bouncing around and driving me bonkers, I had to fumble through severe mud messes twice, making my feet feel like cement blocks, and then around mile 17 I ran out of water and had to take a short detour to buy another water bottle. Then I basically walked the remaining 3 miles home. I thought bumping into my mom at mile 9 would boost my spirits for the rest of the run, but the brain can only fool the body to a certain degree I guess. #runnersworld #running #firstmarathon #training #runlessrunfaster #trailrunning #outdoors #hydrate

Double Suncrest for the win!!! This was not an easy route by any means but sometimes you just got to embrace the suck. 14 miles and 2300 elevation gain! While it was super hard there is something rewarding about earning the downhill.

Today I focused on a set pace (7:15/mile) , pulling my knees forward, & nasal breathing , all while listening  to The Four Agreements on @audible . Well I definitely followed my Fourth Agreement and did my best , I even set a new record pace of 7:11/ mile , and set a new PR of a 6:40 mile️!! I had some rough runs last week, including a planned 18 miler on Sunday where I bailed after 2.5 sluggy miles. I was stressed, tired, and having some issues with my diet. Took a rest day Monday, had some strong deadlifts and squats Tuesday and Wednesday, and enjoyed the trail today for 10 sunny miles. Not my fastest tempo, but I gotta get used to the leg soreness from increased squat weight, AND get used to the heat (yes 60° is HOTTT). The most important thing was that I felt excited to go for a run today, and that’s what keeps me grinding. .

Had a surprisingly great run just now!  My legs have been pretty trashed since our 20 miler on Sunday so I've taken it easy, haven't worked out at all and have rolled and stretched. Still wasn't feeling great today but had to get a run in anyway and somehow everything felt AWESOME! 
Ended up making up a workout once I realized I could do more than an easy pace run.

Today I started my day with Yoga and followed with #RunLessRunFaster FIRST Key Run 1 Week 5 (Counting Down) #HalfMarathonTraining which consisted of a 1 mile warmup jog 3x1600m #TrackRepeats with 400m Recovery Intervals (200m walking, 200m jogging) followed by a 10 minute cool down. How do you get faster? How do you accomplish each goal on any given training day? 🤔

1️⃣You show up. 
2️⃣ You focus on the goal.
3️⃣ You believe in yourself. 
4️⃣ You work. You get uncomfortable. You hurt. 
5️⃣ You don’t quit. .
This morning (see  my stories) I conquered.  By doing those exact same things above
It was my first time getting full miles sprints (3x1600) yes, they had me like 🥵🤢🥴 but not only I completed them, even surprised myself with my pace for each. My fastest whole mile now is 7:15 which for me is a big deal. 
BUT...
I went thinking thinking... today it will be a battle. Me vs Me. I will show up, I will believe in me, I will hurt, even when it felt daunting,  I was hopeful to at least give it all I could give. .
This time around training for Boston marathon with the Run Less Run Faster program has been challenging and has definitely taken me out of my comfort zone. .
With speed track workouts every week at a certain pace, plus many longs runs, I feel like I have never work this hard for a race. I’m not even trying to go to Boston with the goal of qualifying again, but still willing to put in the work. Boston is often a slower race for most people. With unpredictable weather and with rollers towards the end of the course, making it even more challenging to push. I know perhaps to qualify it is long shot, however, even tho I’m making progress and staying strong as a runner at my BIG 45 years of age,  I’m hoping to go there to CELEBRATE and enjoy my experience! I worked really hard to make it there so yes I want to enjoy it! That being said, I still intend to do my best and when I put effort into something and give my heart I CONQUERED regardless of pace or time!!!

I am SO glad that run is done! Another challenging course, which obviously has its benefits but I'm ready to just run down an effing mountain for 20 miles!  I don't think I'd be complaining quite so much of I wasn't already sore from my Friday workout. That was definitely a rookie mistake. All in all, a good run though! Another 20 mile run in the books and we're 1 week closer to race day! ‍️

I don’t know about you guys but what drives me to do my best is always... location location location.  The course may not be the easiest but IF it’s beautiful, then I totally want in. ‍️

We came to St George for my son’s last minute tennis  tournament. It was quite a different experience than his normal soccer games. But it workout out ok at the end and totally enjoyed watching him play with my family! ️
.
My first ride outside this year was on Friday and it was beautiful and “mostly” easy til I hit the last 2 painful miles of Snow Canyon. Which of course, they always burn 🥵but couldn’t resist not riding here. Then on Saturday I got my long run done by Snow Canyon and Ivins area. 20 milers are never easy or pleasant. But so glad I was able to actually finish strong and even beat my target pace by a few minutes. ️
One of the things i love about running is that we get to listen to music. The first hour I played all my fav Disney songs for my warm up haha  and I was like a kid  singing out loud and feeling so uplifted! There are times while I run (full disclosure here) that I feel SO SO happy and grateful for my blessings and my life that tears stream down and my heart ️ just burst in JOY. Have you ever felt so happy like that? During these runs I feel so close to GOD as I feel like nature testifies so loudly of his existence, but most importantly, of HIS love for me. I didn’t feel alone once. I didn’t feel discouraged even when it hurts to run that long. I just felt happiness & gratitude. Yes, it was challenging, but I was just soaking every second and all the beauty around me.

Happy Saturday!!! Sportin these crazy curls this morning and feeling super light & blessed  as I finish up another awesome training sesh!! I didn’t wake up feeling this way though, today was a struggle to tie the @hokaoneone  and get out the door. Everyday is going to bring a different challenge , today I had the choice to dwell and be upset over literally nothing , or I could tie my shoes , go outside and get my ass on the track... I chose the track, and I’m so thankful I did. That’s the challenge !! Choosing what you know is right, even when your 🧠 is telling you to choose what is easiest. I made the choice to go out , push myself, and do the work , I even got a decent time!! 4 miles  in at 7:39/ mile  . Choose to Make Today Great!! ️

This is it! Last week was the halfway point of training for the May 5th marathon. Apart from some abysmal winter conditions and last week’s knee scare, things are looking good! Today’s Key1 was 10-20 min warmup, 2 sets of 6x 400m (2:05 each) and 1:30 RI, with 2:30 RI between sets, and 10 min cooldown. Today’s run was so genuinely horrible, I HAD to follow it up with some weights. The Key2 run I followed was 1 mile easy tempo (10:55), 6 miles long pace (9:40), and 1 mile easy. I was worried the distance would be iffy, since my lower hamstring/inner knee started acting up after Tuesday’s 13 miles (hence the 3-day rest period), but knees and hammies felt fine! The main issue was yesterday’s dinner of fried chicken sending stabbing pain thru my gut during the first 20 minutes of this run, needing to take a few walk breaks, and then during my stretches afterwards, my right glute cramping up- ow #runnersworld #running #training #firstmarathon #runlessrunfaster #ymca #ymcalincoln

However our legs were feeling great and when we hit the 11 mile mark there was no doubt in our mind we had the kick to get us to where we had not planned to go. Really enjoyed my first @libertyhospitalhalf and look forward to coming back again next year. 6 weeks till @rocktheparkwayhalf and super excited to be running with @kimcaseorg on her first ever half-marathon. It's been a minute since I've worked out. Since Saturday to be exact. Was in Las Vegas from Sunday - Wednesday for a work conference. Busy days from morning till night & never managed to get a run in.  To be honest, I was kind of worried this run was going to be rough since it's been so long. Luckily @brwngrl_inutah_runs texted me right before I talked myself out of going to the gym and said she wanted to go too. Ended up feeling good. Team work makes the dream work!

Celebrating today’s long run with a summer pic because today it actually felt warm outside.

20 miles FTW!!! ‍️ In comparison to my last two long runs, (with back issues or hitting a wall on 13 miles) today I went thinking I was doing it no matter what. What I didn’t anticipate was feeling so good! I started slow and steady up the Suncrest hill. Always taking it easy and slow. Pacing it always pays off later.  Such a great climb and descent. Then hit the longest 13 miles with a few extra bumps here and there to simulate Boston‘s course.  .
Now guys, sorry for the following TMI ️ but for the first time EVER  I’m going to give credit for feeling so good, to having my period this time around, combined with nutrition on point, of course. As I have been learning and researching and thru various posts by  @bamtrimom @coachkristi  and even @angelanaeth posts about periods and how they help us hormonally and physically to perform better.  I can attest to that! It had happened a few times in some of my best races and it happened again today. So from now on, I will stop complaining about that “dreadful” time of the month and embrace the benefits that allow our feminine, powerful and amazing bodies to do well!

I realize that not everyone’s  bodies are going to experience the same and I know that are special cases, but we all experience it differently (and usually the week before) we deal with a myriad of painful and annoying PMS issues that have us (and others around 🤣) all pulling our hair out  but, today.... I celebrate that blasted period!! Even with a little happy dance! 
Yay for womanhood and for what our bodies and minds can achieve! Haha   #trulygrateful .
