1. Establezca un horario regular para acostarse y para despertarse.

2. Si tiene la costumbre de tomar siestas, no exceda los 45 minutos de sueño diurno.

3. Evite el consumo excesivo de alcohol 4 horas antes de acostarse y no fume.

4. Evite la cafeína 6 horas antes de acostarse. Esto incluye café, té y muchos refrescos, así como chocolate.

5. Evite los alimentos pesados, picantes o azucaradas 4 horas antes de acostarse. Un aperitivo ligero antes de acostarse es aceptable.

6. Haga ejercicio regularmente, pero no justo antes de acostarse.

7. Use ropa de cama cómoda y acogedora.

8. Encuentre un ajuste cómodo de la temperatura para dormir y mantenga la habitación bien ventilada.

9. Bloquee todos los ruidos molestos y elimine la mayor cantidad de luz posible.

10. Reserve su cama para dormir y para el sexo, evitando su uso para el trabajo o la recreación en general. #worldsleepday #world #sleep

In celebration of World Sleep Day last Friday, I wanted to share some sleep tips with you to help with getting a good night sleep 🧡
1️⃣ Avoid eating overly large, fatty (as in deep fried fatty), “heavy” or spicy foods right before bed. These cause discomfort from indigestion that can make it hard to sleep. Aim to eat your dinner ~3 hours + before bed and if needed, have a small light snack an hour before bed. 
2️⃣ Create a calm sleeping environment - an ideal environment is quiet, dark & relatively cool, with a comfortable bed and minimal clutter. 
3️⃣ Have a calm smelling room - I love using essential oils for this. I’ve been using @inessenceaus for about 5 years and the @inessenceaus Sleep is my favourite before bed. It’s a calming blend of 100% pure Lavender, Mandarin, Roman Chamomile & Valerian essential oils which have been traditionally used in aromatherapy as a sedative for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with sleeplessness including mild insomnia, nervous tension, restlessness, stress & mild anxiety. I’d definitely recommend trying it if you struggle with a good night sleep. 
3️⃣ Avoid using your phone / laptop or watching tv close to bed time or in bed.
4️⃣ Get into a regular sleep pattern - make sleep a priority and have a routine with getting ready for bed, allowing yourself enough time to wind down. Aim to go to bed at the same time each night.
5️⃣ Be physically active during the day.
6️⃣ Avoid highly processed sugary foods before bed (e.g. lollies, cakes, chocolate) and avoid caffeine In the afternoon/evening, which includes coffee, teas, energy drinks and pre-workouts.

Struggling through some of the challenges with our pup, Wayne and I are just not sleeping well.  We'll sleep for short bouts - 3 to 4 hours at a time - and then we're up for a bit and then back to sleep.  We're walking around a little foggy at the moment.  And heading to bed earlier and earlier trying to make up for what is lacking.  I expect we're feeling a very tiny version of the discomfort that young parents feel.⁣

In the midst of our exhaustion, we discovered that Friday was World Sleep Day.  The day was started in 2008 to draw attention to sleep problems and the importance of healthy sleep.  Adults should be getting 7-8 hours of deep, continuous sleep {sigh}. It is a basic human need. ⁣
⁣
On our blog this month, we talked about the importance of sleep and tips for a good nights sleep. ⁣
⁣
One of my favorite shortcuts? I warm up my neck pillow and take it to bed with me to wear while I read at night.  The warmth is soothing, the lavender scent is calming, and the ritual itself now tells my body that it is time to slow down and get ready for bed. ⁣

Now, if we can only find a trick to get our pup to settle overnight. Any suggestions would be highly welcome! ⁣

Spring is finally (well, nearly) upon us! Tomorrow is the first day of Spring, which is exciting as we soon have the clocks go forward, and everything starts to feel much better! (I definitely am one to suffer from SAD during the Winter season).
On Sunday 31st March we effectively loose an hour of sleep as the our clocks go forward. There are few things we can do to help us make sure we don’t lose out in a #goodnightssleep. Personally, I like to make sure that I have an early night, by having a relaxing evening and treating it as if it’s a working weekday. Going to bed at a decent time (not overdoing on the alcohol intake either) means you can wake up naturally in the morning, feeling awake, energised and (hopefully) not noticing that we have ‘missed an hour’ of sleep.

I get paranoid if #BabyHashtag does not sleep for atleast 10 hours in the night. She's cranky the entire next day and what follows are tantrums, fussy eating and clingy behaviour. My 9 year old cousin Suhana, for instance, is conditioned to sleep at 8 in the night because she needs to be up at 6 for school. The one month I spent at my mom's really messed up her schedule cos sometimes she played with #BabyHashtag well past her bedtime. She would be exhausted at school and after two days of sleeping less than usual, we had to tuck her in strictly because this pattern change was not doing her any good.

Kids of all ages need a full night of undisturbed sleep, especially those who go to school. And with exams just round the corner it is important that they are properly rested. Not only does sound sleep aid in a well balanced mind but it also helps them maintain a healthy physical lifestyle. Here's to raising happy and smart kids. Ofcourse, a comfy mattress helps.

WORLD SLEEP DAY 2019
Hoy, 15 de marzo, se celebra el día mundial del sueño, y este año tiene como eslogan “Healthy sleep, healthy aging” ó “Sueño saludable, envejecimiento saludable”; con esta iniciativa se pretende concienciar a la población sobre la importancia de mantener una buena higiene del sueño. 
Según datos de la Sociedad Española de Neurología, aproximadamente el 20% de la población infantil sufre algún trastorno del sueño, y entre un 20-45% de la población adulta sufre, en algún momento de su vida, dificultad para iniciar o mantener el sueño. Además, al menos un 10% de la población sufre algún trastorno de sueño crónico y grave, lo que supondría más de 4 millones de personas afectadas en España. 
El sueño es una necesidad vital del cuerpo, y constituye uno de los cuatro pilares de la salud conjuntamente con una alimentación equilibrada, el ejercicio físico y el bienestar emocional. Si el sueño es insuficiente o no reparador tiene importantes consecuencias en el bienestar del sujeto, en su rendimiento y a nivel orgánico. 
Qué debemos hacer para lograr una buena higiene del sueño?
- Establecer horarios regulares para levantarse y para ir a dormir.
- Si existe el hábito de hacer siesta, intentar que no exceda de los 30-40 minutos.
- Evitar tomar café, té o bebidas estimulantes 6-8 horas antes de ir a dormir.
- Hacer ejercicio físico durante el día, pero no en las últimas 4-6 horas antes de dormir.
- Mantener una dieta equilibrada, evitar cenas abundantes y/o copiosas y no beber alcohol. No fumar.
- Evitar ver la televisión, jugar con videoconsolas, usar el móvil, ipad, etc. por la noche. En su lugar, leer, escuchar música, etc. - Procurar hacer siempre las mismas cosas antes de ir a dormir, estableciendo una rutina.
- Hacer ejercicios de relajación. Si a pesar de ello no consigue dormir, levántese y haga una actividad tranquila y vuelva a intentarlo.
- No tener en la habitación una alta temperatura, lo ideal es entre 18 y 22 grados.
- Eliminar todo el ruido que pueda causar distracción y eliminar la luminosidad de la habitación al máximo durante la noche.
