Further to yesterday’s post re @milanicosmetics and @alissa.ashley , Milani has issued a statement/apology via their IG story. Taking inspiration and blatantly copying are two different things however, I believe Milani did the right thing in removingWest Hollywood, California
@cait_barton Why is it “inspired by” when it comes to black women in the industry, yet “stolen from” when it comes to white women (or men) in the industry? This is straight fucked. While I’m happy Milani admitted they were wrong and ultimately took down the video (but really...I mean, how couldn’t they?), their language perpetuates privilege. You weren’t inspired by @alissa.ashley, you stole her concept entirely and rebranded it as your own. Inspiration is supposed to be when you see something that sparks creativity, and you feel overwhelmingly compelled to create. The foundation of the idea may be similar, but the execution and personal style is what makes it your own and not a carbon copy of someone else’s. Also - @alissa.ashley murdered her video, @milanicosmetics was a mere 99 cent knock off. 💕💛
@alissa.ashley @cait_barton thank you for seeing it! I appreciate this comment!
@milanicosmetics just released their promo video for their new Bronze Intense Glow Face & Body Liquid Bronzer and it looks strikingly similar to @alissa.ashley ‘s video for the @fentybeauty Body Lava (second video) dated March 25. What do you guys th
@melissa_scott570 I love @alissa.ashley and Shane in Milani if they copied but aren’t these campaigns filmed months in advance?
@alissa.ashley @melissa_scott570 if it was (filmed months in advance which usually the things that are are the more big campaigns whereas this one was filmed in house at the office based on the behind the scenes they had on their story earlier) they wouldn’t be messaging my team apologizing & asking if they can send me something right now. Unfortunately I believe their head of marketing saw my content & decided to pitch it for what they should do as advertisement for the new product.
