I think I could do an entire series just on drawers and ideas to organize them. Bathroom drawers, kitchen drawers, office drawers, closet drawers, and junk drawers like this one right here that we have in our kitchen. On a podcast episode I recorded yesterday I was even talking about the drawers we have in our fridge. All drawers, any drawer - I’m all about it
•
The thing I love about drawers vs. cabinets is that you can get an overhead, birds-eye view of everything in there. No reaching far back into forgotten dark corners or crouching down and moving things aside to get to what you need. (When we built our house I tried to get as many drawers as possible.) Also, the organizational products that go into a drawer are relatively simple, can be very budget-friendly, and very impactful when used smartly
•
If you’re building out a new home or going through a remodel, may I enthusiastically suggest : drawers drawers drawers #simplify #organize

New blog post is up and it’s all about how I do my Instagram stories! This is in direct response to questions I get pretty regularly, so now it’s all in one convenient spot on the blog.
•
It’s amazing to see how far the stories feature has come over the last couple of years; even at the beginning I questioned why someone would want to see or post something that lasted only 24hrs Well, things sure are different now and I love using stories to communicate with you all on here.
•
I’m sharing some tips and tricks and the steps I use for my posts and the thoughts that go behind them. But I think the main thing to remember about stories is that there really is no wrong way to do it – it should just be a reflection of you in whatever way you see fit and be about what you enjoy sharing with others Link in bio for the post! #momentsofmine

Happy Monday! At the risk of sounding like an annoying person, I am a big fan of Mondays. It’s a fresh start and I like to get back to the regular rhythms of our weeks. Anyone else? ‍️
•
Monday’s are also when we release a new episode on the “Good To Be Home” podcast and this week we are tapping into two topics : a quick recap of our family goal-setting staycation and an important topic for business owners - EMAIL MARKETING. We discuss why email marketing is not dead, why you should start it if you haven’t, what makes a good email, what makes us hit the “unsubscribe” button, and a little teaser into next week’s episode on social media. One of my own goals this year is to strengthen and grow my website mikaperry.com and improve on what I send out to my email subscribers, using the same strategies we share here on this week’s episode.

️ Headed to the airport today which means I’m putting on my “airport outfit” : a button up shirt (usually chambray,) black or white jeans, bag, sunglasses. I don’t operate on a capsule wardrobe and I usually overpack – but I DO have a designated “flight outfit” when I travel which makes packing so so so so much easier, because it’s one less thing to think about. I’ve landed everywhere from Paris, Belize, Japan, Cabo, Italy, OC, etc. in this exact outfit. Most times it’s paired with flats, sometimes it’s sneakers, and on occasion with heels. See my outfit staples under the “shop” tab on the blog, and I’ll share some of my favorite travel items on stories today.

One simple way to a happier-feeling home is fresh flowers and greenery I think it’s fun to find your favorites and stick to those, kind of like a personal brand or a signature look! My faves (which I typically put in this kitchen vase, in my office, in the living room, and in the master bath) are white hydrangeas or these super green Israeli ruscus which are just simply filler greens but create a bright full look and last F O R E V E R. Like, weeks. True story : I forgot them in a small vase when we left for Italy last summer and when we came back they were still there, still alive and totally fine. Crazy! Good morning everyone! This week’s new episode of Good to Be Home is a solo one and I’m keeping it simple by talking about one word : BALANCE. This episode was actually unplanned but I felt called to do it so I did. And here we are!
•
Let me give a bit of a preview : balance to me is not about multitasking and is definitely not about perfection. What it is, for me, is both a value and a verb that is positive, builds strength, and takes into deep consideration the wavering nature of our lives (crazy kids, stress at work, multiple demands on our time, feeling depressed and unmotivated, things not going the way you hoped for, unpredictable events, etc.) Balance is an important philosophy on the show (in fact our tagline is “balancing business and life”) and it’s something Russ and I both believe to be a good thing. This is a candid, shorter episode but I hope it will get you thinking and you can leave with a few tips and thoughts to put into action.
•
Don’t think of balance as unrealistic - because chances are you are already practicing it Link in bio to listen! #goodtobehome

“Get organized” is on a lot of New Years resolutions and goal lists out there...but what does that actually look like?? It can be kind of vague, intimidating, and/or high-pressure, especially if you’re surrounded by piles thinking “Ok but REALLY. Where do I even START?” Today I’m sharing one of my biggest tips to get in the organizational mood, get that ball rolling (which often then leads to the snowball effect of completing more organizational to-do’s) and feel super accomplished. Who doesn’t want that?

Happy 2019! I am so happy to be here standing at the start of a fresh new year If you listened to this week’s podcast episode, you heard a lot about our reflection of the past year and big goals we have for this year (I really loved this episode and hope you did too.) But there are a couple things I didn’t say on the podcast, and I want to mention them here :
•
In 2018, I shared things I never (ever) thought I’d tell anyone, let alone publicly on this profile and on the airwaves. Things like “my husband had an affair” and “I stopped drinking alcohol” and things that really freak me out sometimes that I said it out loud. But by being open with myself and in turn being vulnerable to you guys, I literally had my happiest, most fulfilling year yet of my life.
•
Vulnerability and openness is something I am seeing more of here on Instagram and I’m sure you are too, and I am so encouraged by that. Sure it’s just an app, and of course I think there are some things that you just want to keep private; no one needs to hear EVERYTHING about you. But social media has been opening lots of different conversations that people may not have had the opportunity to share otherwise - and these conversations are helping people. And that’s pretty awesome. I hope to have a part of these conversations in the years ahead, both as a sharer and a listener.
•
I heard a great quote : forward motion is not always linear. You can go down and up like a wave - but you’re going forward. That’s how I view life and I embrace each God-made wave fully. My goal and purpose for Instagram and the podcast is to encourage that forward motion in a positive way, regardless of where vertically on that wave you may be at the moment.
•
Thank you, thank you, for being curious about life alongside me and enjoying organizing and talking about the hard stuff and asking me about vitamins and listening to me in the afternoon parent pickup line and watching me go to Target yet again and just being a light of positivity on here with me. I am taking a deep breath of gratitude and sending my love your way for a wonderful 2019. Here we go!

Today’s new episode of the Good To Be Home podcast is a reflection of 2018 - the year we started the podcast and experienced so much growth and amazing things!
•
The episode follows a format familiar to our family : we share our “peaks and valleys,” which is a nightly tradition with the kids at our dinner table and now we’re doing it with you! You’ll ALSO hear some of our professional goals and what we have planned for the podcast in 2019. Link in bio to listen to today’s episode or find us on iTunes!
•
Here on Instagram, these were my top nine posts :
•
1, 2, and 3 : Unsurprisingly, organization ranked up top
•
4 : My birthday post where I turned it around and shared about my parents, who are my role models.
•
5 : Paige and Reese’s room reveal, which ended up on the @potterybarnkids feed and they messaged me about the high engagement they were receiving on it. I simply just loved the wallpaper from @anewall and wondered “is this room too simple?” But turned out simplicity - and little Paige - is exactly what made it beautiful.
•
6 : This was one of my favorite photo sessions from the year, when we were in CA. I actually have so much more from this shoot that I haven’t shared - but they all capture the energetic spirit that is Reese and I just love it.
•
7 : The day the Good To Be Home podcast went live. This passion project with @russperry has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
•
8 : The Berry Prep. Quite possibly the most comments I have received on a post! If you haven’t tried berry-prepping, check out this post and give it a try in your fridge in the new year.
•
9 : Organizing, to round it all out ‍️
•
There you have it! I’d love to know what types of posts you enjoyed seeing most this past year, let me know below Cheers (with La Croix!) to a wonderful 2018. Thanks for spending it with me

I am a mom that enjoys time away from my kids. THERE! I said it! I love my girls with every ounce of my being in a heart-achingly strong way – but sometimes I need alone time. I know that about me and I don’t feel guilt about it! (Mom guilt is the worst.) Whether it’s working, running errands, or settling into some self-care, I use this precious time to put the puzzle pieces of being not just “mom” but being a human being together, so that when they run back in through the door I can smile genuinely and give them a million kisses with a present mind. It’s almost like a time management hack. They’re off enjoying the snow today with Russ and getting quality daddy-daughter time, eating ice cream and playing and being silly (his strong suit) while I get my mind clear and get our home ready for the new year (my strong suit.) It’s a win-win-win for everyone I hope everyone has a great weekend! Xo #momentsofmine

Obviously, I can’t talk about new years and goal setting without talking organization 🤷‍️
•
I hope you will take this to heart : organizing is not about achieving perfection. It’s about creating systems to eliminate distractions, reduce stress, make daily life easier, encourage the kind of lifestyle you want to live, and support you in the goals you want to achieve. Ideally a space will end up looking pretty – but only because a good and functional system has been put in place.
•
An example is this mudroom cabinet that holds Russ’ running and some of our on-the-go fitness gear, strategically placed right by our garage door. To the right is where he has his keys and on the opposing wall is where I hang my bag and keys. One time years ago I frustratingly missed a workout because I couldn’t find my keys, and decided I would never be unprepared for a workout. Since then I have set up systems in our home specifically to support the areas in life we are working on, whether that’s health, business, or family.
•
So when you’re planning out your 2019 goals, maybe think too about how to create a home environment that supports that - a healthy pantry, a fitness area, a homework station or chore boards for your kids, prepped food in the fridge, or a home office that is inviting to work in. It really, REALLY makes a difference in how you feel (less frustration) and approach those goals (a more positive outlook!)
•
Head to the link in bio for blog posts on areas of our homes where I have set up systems. And if you don’t see a specific space you’re needing help in, stay tuned - there are going to be exponentially more posts to come in 2019 http://liketk.it/2z3wR @liketoknow.it #liketkit #ltkhome #mudroom #orgamized #myhome

GOAL-SETTING ⭐️ Next week’s new episode of “Good To Be Home” is one you won’t want to miss. We are sharing our highs and lows of 2018 – plus our goals and targets for 2019, both professionally and personally. It’s a reflective episode, which I think is an integral practice for growth, and I hope it will inspire you to do the same before looking ahead to the new year
•
Some of the personal goals are ones we are still deciding on and have not laid out the paths for achieving them yet (that’s the key part!) but we have dedicated planning time for that 1) on a date night tonight, and 2) on our 5th annual Perry family staycation next week. You really have to plan to plan, you know?
•
We also announce a new addition to the podcast for next year which I am SO excited about! So be sure to catch the episode next Monday
•
(This moment above was definitely part of our memorable moments in 2018 : in Venice, Italy, on a private island playing outdoor games in our swimsuits, with a cornfield before us, the prettiest pool behind us, a Michelin-starred restaurant next to us, our beautiful hotel room on the other side, and the sun shining above us. It’s these kinds of random, awesome, you-can’t-make-this-up moments that make travel so worth it ) #newyear

I hope everyone had a beautiful Christmas! I typically take down decor right away – but this year feel like lingering in the holiday spirit a little longer. I don’t know if it’s because we were busy hosting for the last few days or because it’s a cloudy day today, but I don’t feel rushed to do so (*sound of me making a peppermint coffee and lighting a Christmas candle ) Who takes down their decor right away? Or do you wait a while?
•
I’ve gotten questions about our holiday storage - these are the bins I use for this and all other storage in our garage. My main tip for utility storage is streamlined, matching containers. Mixing up holiday-colored bins (Halloween and Christmas being the main ones) with clear or gray/blue/green/black bins from different brands and stores just creates a cluttered visual field in an already clutter-prone area of the home, so when we moved I invested in getting all the same bins. These are weatherproof and airtight and are always in stock @thecontainerstore, which means when I need more or different sizes I can always find them.
•
If you want to create a streamlined look but getting all new matching bins is not realistic for you and is not something you want to invest in (which I totally understand!) labeling everything the same is an easy way to achieve a similar system. I linked my favorite labels (which you can write on with permanent marker for durability or erasable chalkboard marker for versatility) plus these bins under the “shop” tab under the link in bio. I’ll show more details of all this on stories when I put everything away!@liketoknow.it http://liketk.it/2z1j8 #liketkit #homesweethome

On the shortest day of the year, I wanted to give you some quick stocking stuffer and last-minute gift ideas for this weekend if you’re running around (no judgement, I still have a couple items to pick up, too!) Here are some things going in our stockings, too :
•
Growing up, I always got an orange in my stocking, and Russ always got a toothbrush - so our kids get both! But with an updated twist; sonicare replacement heads!
•
Maddix’s Christmas wish list this year consisted mainly of gift cards to all the teen-friendly spots : @forever21, @urbanoutfitters, Target, iTunes, etc. So she may not have as many things under the tree, but her stocking is going to be LIT
•
Russ and I love to pick out magazines for each other and roll them up into the stockings. They’re basically a treat for grownups
•
Speaking of rolling up, I’m rolling up a printout of tickets to Disney on Ice for the girls. Tickets to a show or event are great last minute but meaningful gift - just go online, buy, and print!
•
I still don’t understand the appeal of LOL dolls - but I appreciate the perfect size and shape as stocking stuffers! ‍️
•
Anything cozy and warm is a win for holiday gifts for all ages. Santa is bringing personalized robes, gloves, pom pom beanies, boots, and sweaters this year. Or so I hear
•
If you’re at a loss for last-minute gifts for hostesses or family or neighbors, I always go with just sharing and gifting what I personally love to use in my life. I think this is why “favorite things” parties and Oprah’s favorite things are popular is because a good recommendation is always appreciated! Some of the items I’m giving this year include @skinnytaste cookbooks, @barefootdreams socks, lip glosses, @emmediane masks, essential oils, candles, olive oil, and PJs

This mattress is going into our new guest bedroom which is finally starting to take shape! I know I’ve said it before but putting a room together really takes time. From concept to budgets and ordering (and back orders ) to deliveries, it happens much faster in your mind than in reality sometimes. This room has been in-process for months but it’s finally coming together. The first and fast arrival was the @allswellhome mattress (we have one in our master bedroom, too) and the bed frame just got here and the side tables are ready for me to start styling. I had a clear vision of what I wanted the guest bedroom to look like and can’t wait to do a reveal hopefully soon.
