Third on our 2019 NHL Draft Rankings is Alex Turcotte
Please keep in mind these are our personal rankings, and will differ from ‘consensus’ rankings.
Turcotte is absolutely everything you want in a player. He’s fast, and uses his speed to be effective in transition and is skilled with the puck, but he’s also always marking up defensively, and sacrificing to make the right play on both ends of the ice. Turcotte backchecks hard and plays really well behind his own goalline, and is great at forcing turnovers, as well as being strong on the puck. Offensively, the American has good finish using either his strong wrister, or his hands in tight and in traffic to finish. He’s a very smart playmaker who’s got blazing speed, finish, and defensive responsibility.
We think he has the tools to potentially be a first-line center at the NHL level.

Spezza’s game has certainly fallen off a cliff as of late, but perhaps a reunion in the Nation’s Capitol could squeeze a bit more production out of the almost 36-year old.

Second on our 2019 NHL Draft Rankings is Kaapo Kakko.
Please keep in mind these are our personal rankings, and will differ from ‘consensus’ rankings.
Kakko had himself a heck of a season. His 22 goals were the most an under-18 Finn has ever scored in the Finnish Liiga, and he continues to dominate the World Championship this past month. There’s no doubt that Kakko will jump straight to the NHL next season.
Kakko is a big powerforward who is extremely strong for his age, although his game doesn’t involve much physicality. He's great at moving the puck on the cycle down low, and winning battles with his frame, as well as protecting the puck once he has it. Kakko has terrific vision and patience offensively, always finding the right play. His skating isn’t great, especially his top-speed, although his edge-work and skating in tight-quarters are elite, as are his hands in tight, and ability to drive through checks. Kakko is also committed on the backcheck, kills penalties, and was leaned on heavily in tough situations throughout the World Juniors this year. He's a net front presence who wins battles in the crease. Kakko has some nifty maneuvers to get around defenders, and of course a great shot, centered around a quick release. Kakko is an all-around great player who will be a star in the NHL.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much firepower you have. In the end, the Finns relied on rock solid goaltending from the AHL’s Kevin Lankinen, who picked up the shutout Saturday.
